Meet Bailee
Hi! My name is Bailee, and I am the original homesteading yogi!
I live on a growing small farm Dogwood Farm with my soon-to-be husband (Alec) on the seacoast of New Hampshire with our four large dogs – a Newfoundland (Hans), two Australian Shepherds (Brady and Razzie), and a German Shepherd/Lab mix (Nala). We also have one Quarter Horse (Big Red), two Holland Lop Bunnies (Zeus and Atlas), and two Flemish Giant Rabbits (Millie and Mabel). And to round out the farm, we also raise production chickens – silkies, olive eggers, Ameraucanas, Buff Orpingtons, and Barred Plymouth Rocks. Yes, all of my chickens have names but I will spare you (follow me on instagram to meet the chickens)! As a growing farm, we have plans to bring home more farm animals very, very soon!
I officially earned the name of homesteading yogi when I brought my silkie chicken post-surgery to a yoga class that I was teaching! You will often find yoga mats, gardening supplies, animal feed and hay in my car and usually all at the same time…
What is Yoga?
Yoga goes beyond what we have come to know it to mean. Yoga, in its simplest form, is the connection – the union – of the mind, body, and soul. The physical form (asana) is actually only one part (of eight) on the path to a more enlightened self. If you are interested in learning more about the eight paths of yoga, you can read that here! (post coming soon)
What is Homesteading?
Homesteading is a lifestyle choice.
It often begins with a desire to become self-sufficient and live more off the land. A truly successful homestead is not attained as an individual and it certainly doesn’t happen overnight. It absolutely requires time, patience, and a community, be it a life-partner, next-door neighbors, members of your local community, or even like-minded individuals you’ve found online.
Homesteading is not all or nothing. You can begin your homesteading journey in a high rise apartment! It is so easy to fall victim to procrastinating perfectionism. The “I will start when I have all my ducks in a row” scenario. Why wait? Start now!
What is a Homesteading Yogi?
A homesteading yogi, regardless of whether you practice the physical practice (asana) or not, is someone who finds connection in their mind, body, and soul through the simpler acts of homesteading. Homesteading asks for your full attention and commitment, it requires hard work, and it encourages patience and a loving-kindness.
To me, homesteading and yoga go hand-in-hand.
This blog is meant to inspire and guide no matter where you are on your homesteading journey! With my incorporation of yoga philosophy, I will teach you how to find joy in every step along the way even in the monotonous and mundane!
If you are craving a simpler life filled with peace and freedom, follow along!
