With summer just around the corner, here are 11 refreshing ways to use your farm fresh blueberries in the perfect concoction of lemon and blueberry.
I am spending some time this week pruning the blueberry bushes in my backyard and dreaming up all of the delicious ways I am going to use up the farm fresh blueberries from this year’s harvest! Pruning back the blueberry bushes is something we do every year to ensure the health of our 160 year old bushes. They’ve been on the property a long time and don’t necessarily need our help to be maintained but we’ve noticed that when we take the time to care for them right, they return the favor with the most delicious and refreshing blueberry treat. In the past, we’ve had to remove trees that were casting too much shade and redirect water from our stream just to keep them perfectly happy for the summertime ahead.
Blueberry season can vary depends on where you live. In New England, blueberries are typically ready for harvest in the later summer months. Our Blueberries are usually ready for the picking mid-July through August. With over 21 blueberry bushes, we collect a substantial amount of blueberries. So much so that we freeze our surplus for year round use!
In anticipation of the next blueberry season, I have gathered some incredible lemon blueberry recipes and am sharing them for others to enjoy.
